"Off the record - the wall of silence" is a political thriller based on investigative research, dedicated to the secrecy practices in the NSU context.
In "Off the record", the focus is no longer on the deeds of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) or the murder victims. Rather, the evening examines the "complete system failure" of the security authorities using concrete examples.
In addition, the piece takes up current events such as the criminal charges against the Federal Prosecutor's Office and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, as well as the trio's alleged involvement in child abuse.
The spin of media portrayal is also crucial in the NSU complex. Therefore, "Off the record - the wall of silence" also examines information flows, media strategies, the public presentation of scandals and their linguistic means.
The audience eavesdrops on conversations between a member of parliament, a journalist and representatives of security agencies in the form of a conspiratorial live radio play with silent film elements in the darkness of the theater space.
"Off the record" collages research material from the NSU complex such as statements by individual officials, background information, concrete scandals, open questions about investigations into betrayal of secrets, and interviews with witnesses who have been discredited because of their statements. The piece is the second part of Christiane Mudra's trilogy on right-wing terrorist continuities in Germany.
